SUMMARY:Ontario Ridge Hike for Members with Wayne McKay and Sandy Brumley
DESCRIPTION:Ontario Ridge Hike July 27\, 2022 9:30 to 12:00 \nPark in the 100-250 Sandridge Avenue Lot (Marsac Avenue\, just above City Hall). We’ll start with a short walk just up the hill\, where we’ll see the Ontario Drain Tunnel and the site of two stamping mills\, The Ontario and the Second Daly Mill. From there\, we’ll head up the Ontario Ridge Trail\, a single track that will take us up over the ridge into Empire Canyon. Along the way\, we’ll see several old mining cabins which have fallen to ruins\, along with an old DeSoto and Cadillac as well as a string of towers for the Daly Aerial Tram\, one of three such trams that once operated to serve the Park City Mines. \nOnce we get into Empire Canyon\, we’ll visit perhaps the largest single treasure trove of mining artifacts in town\, including\, mine dumps for the American Flag and Massachusetts Mines. We’ll also visit several buildings from the Daly Mining Companies\, including an explosive bunker\, the Judge Mining and Smelting Company Office Building\, which includes the Judge Tunnel (also known as The Anchor Tunnel.) Just across from these buildings we will see remnants from the Alliance Mine\, which was subsequently bought by The Silver King Consolidated Mine.\nThis hike takes about 2.25 hours is 3.3 miles long and has a total of 617 vertical feet of climbing. Please bring water\, snacks\, lunch\, sunscreen\, etc. We’ll end up near Old Town\, so you may want to plan a lunch for yourselves there at the conclusion of the hike! \nIf you are a member and would like to join us that day\, please contact Lexy Hartford\, Museum Assistant\, at LHartford@parkcityhistory.org. Please give her your name\, email\, and cell phone number. \nIf you are not a member and would like to join us for a hike\, please register as a member on our website at https://parkcityhistory.org/membership. SUMMARY:What’s So Funny About Park City’s Wildflowers? in-person lecture given by James Cornett
DESCRIPTION:Park City Museum will host an in-person lecture called What’s So Funny About Park City’s Wildflowers? given by James Cornett on Wednesday\, July 27th from 5-6 p.m. at the Park City Museum Education and Collection Center Building located at 2079 Sidewinder Drive. Please register for the lecture at www.parkcityhistory.org/events. \nAfter the snow has gone\, Park City and the Wasatch Mountains transform into a kaleidoscope of color as wildflowers spread across the hills\, meadows and roadsides Join ecologist James Cornett as he examines our wildflowers and legacy from a unique and lighthearted perspective. It’s a program designed for those who sneeze at the mere sight of a blossom\, who would rather watch TV than wildflowers\, or think those darn plants are just too colorful. \nMr. Cornett holds both B.A. and M.S. degrees in biology and is the founder and principal biologist for JWC Ecological Consultants\, Inc.\, an ecological consulting firm specializing in endangered species studies in the American West. Cornett is the author of 42 books on nature. His current research on Joshua trees was recently covered in a front-page story in the Los Angeles Times. He retired as Director of Natural Sciences at the Palm Springs Desert Museum in 2005. He lives in Palm Springs with his wife Terry and is a summer resident of Park City. \nRegister for this lecture\n\n\n \n \n \n \n Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n Phone\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ
