It will cover the hardships\, hazards and rewards of working the early prospects followed by the world-class state of the art mines such as the Ontario and Silver King. Life was hard and the days were long but the social life in Park City kept most of the miners here even during the down times.Donovan Symonds is a mining engineer. He grew up and was educated in England before immigrating to Canada (1971) and the U.S. He moved to Park City in 1978 and was the co-founder and President of an international mining consulting company. He retired in 2008 and has been a docent with the Park City Museum for the last nine years.The Park City Museum will be hosting the Way We Worked exhibition from November 11\, 2017 through January 10\, 2018. SUMMARY:Chinese Immigration Lecture with Chris Merritt
DESCRIPTION:Chris Merritt\, an archeologist from the Utah Division of State History\, will be at the Park City Museum’s Education and Collection Center located at 2079 Sidewinder Avenue on December 13\, 2017 from 5-6PM to discuss the thousands of Chinese workers who came to Utah to help with the construction of the Central Pacific Railroad in 1869.  Many stayed until the 1890’s leaving behind a historical and archaeological legacy.  Over the past few years\, State History and the BLM have worked to discover more of this history and to build towards the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad in 2019.   \nMerritt received a Ph.D. from the University of Montana in 2010 in Anthropology.  He has previously worked for the United States Forest Service and private archaeological firms in Nevada\, Utah\, and Montana.   \nThe Park City Museum will be hosting the Way We Worked exhibition from November 11\, 2017 through January 10\, 2018.
