SUMMARY:Daly Judge Tunnel Water Supply and the Olympics lecture given by Mike Nelson
DESCRIPTION:Park City Museum will host a lecture called Daly Judge Tunnel Water Supply and the Olympics given by Mike Nelson on Wednesday\, July 10\, 2024 from 5-6 p.m. held at the Park City Museum Education and Collections Center located at 2079 Sidewinder Drive. More information can be found at www.parkcityhistory.org. \nThis lecture will describe the work Mike did in 2001\, to ensure that the water supply from the Daly Judge tunnel wouldn’t be interrupted during the 2002 Olympics. \nMike Nelson is a senior mining consultant at Stantec Engineering. He previously taught mining engineering at the University of Utah\, and worked in the mining industry for Kennecott Copper\, Consolidation Coal\, and EIMCO Process Equipment Co. Mike’s dad grew up on Ontario Avenue in Park City\, and worked at the Silver King mine while he went to college. His grandfather worked in the Park City mines for over 30 years\, whenever he wasn’t “…laid off or on strike.” Mike is a Distinguished Member and Fellow of the Society for Mining\, Metallurgy\, and Exploration (SME)\, and in 2020 he received the General Patrick E. Connor Award for Service to Utah’s Mining Industry from the Utah Mining Association.

SUMMARY:Silver King Mine Hike with Heather Tourkin
DESCRIPTION:Silver King Mine Hike with Heather Tourkin at 9:00 a.m. \nThis hike has a vertical elevation of nearly 1\,400 feet and is 6.5 to 7 miles long\, although there is an option to take the Town Lift back down to Main Street. Definitely a strenuous hike\, but it is treed and has lovely views of downtown Park City. \nThe hike follows the extant Silver King tram towers\, skirting the counterweight\, as we make our way up Sweeny’s Switchback/John’s Trails to the Silver King Shaft House at the base of Bonanza Lift. Just below the shaft house in Woodside Gulch is the Silver King Mill. The Silver King Mine has the largest remaining collection of mining structures within the Park City Mining District\, so lots to look at and talk about. \nBring a snack to enjoy as we’re looking at the mining structures\, water and sunscreen. The hike will take about 3.5 hours. \nIf you are a member and would like to join us on one of these hikes\, please contact Diane Knispel\, at education@parkcityhistory.org with the following information: \n•	Which hike you would like to go on?\n•	Names of people going on the hike.\n•	Email address associated with your membership.\n•	A contact phone number (preferably a cell phone that you will have with you morning of the hike)\n•	Do you need a lift ticket for your hike or not? \nIf you are not a member and would like to join us for a hike\, please register as a member on our website at https://parkcityhistory.org/membership. Once you are registered\, please contact Diane Knispel with the information needed that is listed above. Thank you! \nI will send you a confirmation email closer to the time with the place to meet and parking information.

SUMMARY:Behind the Bars and Booze of Park City lecture given by Jane Perkins
DESCRIPTION:Park City Museum will host a lecture called Behind the Bars and Booze of Park City given by Jane Perkins on Wednesday\, July 24\, 2024 from 5-6 p.m. held at the Park City Museum Education and Collections Center located at 2079 Sidewinder Drive. More information can be found at www.parkcityhistory.org. \nIn the early days of starting High West Distillery\, Jane & Dave were regularly asked “why do this in Utah where no one drinks!” In order to address that question\, they researched who came\, what they drank\, and where they drank. The discoveries were incorporated into the brand and eventually a book. Jane and David regularly met with Gary Kimball\, a legacy to Park City history as well as the author of the book Saloons of Old Park City. This lecture will explore the colorful history of the early saloons and drinks as well as their evolution as the city transitioned from silver to snow.
