SUMMARY:Ontario Ridge Hike with Heather Tourkin
DESCRIPTION:Ontario Ridge Hike with Heather Tourkin at 9:30 a.m. \nIntermediate loop hike\, 5+ miles long with 700 vertical feet of elevation. Since we end at the top of Main Street there will be lots of lunch options should folks be hungry. \nHikers should bring water\, sunscreen and snacks. \nThis will be a combination mine history & woodsy hike as there are a large number of buildings and artifacts\, including the Ontario drain tunnel and remnants of the High Line train track built in 1889 to serve the Ontario Mill. The hike will head up the Prospect Trail along Ontario Ridge (a single track with ruins of old mining cabins\, an abandoned DeSoto\, plus a string of towers for the Daly Aerial Tram—one of three such trams that once served the Park City Mines). We’ll follow it through alternating forests of Aspen and pine until we empty out onto the gravel two-track Ontario Ridge Road just under the Deer Valley Lady Morgan ski lift. We’ll take Empire Canyon to the Daly Mining Companies buildings\, comprised of the Judge Mining & Smelting Company Office structure(s)\, of which there are quite a few including an explosive bunker and the Alliance Watchman’s Cabin. Continuing down the canyon we’ll see more mining remnants including mine dumps for the American Flag and Massachusetts Mines. \nIf you are a member and would like to join us on one of these hikes\, please contact Diane Knispel\, at education@parkcityhistory.org with the following information: \n•	Which hike you would like to go on?\n•	Names of people going on the hike.\n•	Email address associated with your membership.\n•	A contact phone number (preferably a cell phone that you will have with you morning of the hike)\n•	Do you need a lift ticket for your hike or not? \nIf you are not a member and would like to join us for a hike\, please register as a member on our website at https://parkcityhistory.org/membership. Once you are registered\, please contact Diane Knispel with the information needed that is listed above. Thank you! \nI will send you a confirmation email closer to the time with the place to meet and parking information.

SUMMARY:R.C. Chambers lecture given by Mark Danninger and Sandy Brumley
DESCRIPTION:Park City Museum and Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History will host a lecture called R.C. Chambers given by Mark Danninger and Sandy Brumley on Wednesday\, June 26\, 2024 from 5-6 p.m. held at the Park City Museum Education and Collections Center located at 2079 Sidewinder Drive. More information can be found at www.parkcityhistory.org. \nRobert Craig Chambers was a man of many connections. Perhaps most prominently\, he served as the agent of George Hearst in the acquisition of The Ontario Mine. He also used John Daly as an agent to acquire additional properties in the Park City mining districts. His connection to Hearst involved a swirl of others\, including Marcus Daley\, James Ben Ali Haggin and Lloyd Tevis. In Park City\, his connections included M.S. Aschheim\, Edward P. Ferry\, Albion Emery and his wife Susanna Bransford\, The Silver Queen. How did he use these connections and why do some say that he “double-crossed” The Silver Queen? \nMark is a mining engineer with over 30 years’ experience in open pit mining and chemical processing in maintenance\, process safety management\, and project management. He holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Mining Engineering and Welding Engineering\, as well as a Master’s Degree in Physical Metallurgy\, all from Montana Tech.\, in Butte\, Montana. He is a long-term resident of Park City. \nA mountain host and hiking guide at Park City Mountain Resort\, Sandy Brumley is a descendent of iron miners in Minnesota and an avid student of Park City History. This will be the fifth in a series of presentations he has made for the Museum. He is a hike leader for the Museum and a member of Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History.
