Bonanza Flat Hike with Wendy Fisher and Mike O’Malley Tuesday, August 2nd at 9 a.m.
Meet at Meet at the Y where Pine Valley and Guardsman Road intersect.
Wendy Fisher, executive director of Utah Open Lands (UOL), and Michael O’Malley, Deer Valley Mountain host, will lead a 3 to 4-hour hike through the beautiful 1,534-acre conservation easement managed by UOL.
We’ll follow a five-mile roundtrip, moderate route, culminating at Silver Islet Lake, which is a site rich in ecological and historical interest. Part of the route will be on the newly extended multi-use trail.
Wendy is our ecology expert, and Michael will cover the mining history. The operative phrase on this hike? “It wasn’t much of a bonanza, and it sure ain’t flat.” From the Golden King and Jones Bonanza mines to thermoregulating moose, we’ll learn about fauna, flora, and a colorful past. Please bring water, snacks, lunch, sunscreen, etc.
