The Museum’s Holiday Ornaments have become a tradition for many locals (and many who think of Park City as home).

Featuring different elements of Park City’s history, each year we create a new and unique ornament. Buy this year’s or collect them all. Either way, you’ll be supporting the Park City Museum’s efforts to save the last remaining historic mining structures and acquiring a family keepsake.

The McPolin Dairy Farm

Designed by local artist Peg Bodell

This farm was originally homesteaded by Harrison McLane in 1886. Irish immigrants Dan and Isabelle McPolin acquired the property in 1896 and built up their dairy operation to provide milk for the greater Park City community. The iconic white barn and its green-tiled milking room was completed in 1922 – the very same year that Dan McPolin passed away.

In 1947 D.A. Osguthorpe, a veterinarian for the area mining companies, purchased the farm. He began his dairy operation with fifty cows and over the next forty-three years the operation grew from hand-milking each cow to milking more than 250 cows with modern milking machines.

Locals fondly remember the twice-daily parade of cows who were marched from their barn and pasture south of Highway 224 across the road to the milking sheds on the north side of the highway.
