What is “Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History?” Come to the Park City Museum on Thursday, March 9, at 5:00 p.m. to hear Co-Chairs Sally Elliott and Rory Murphy talk about this timely project to stabilize the last remaining relics of our glorious mining past. Just 24 years after the first pioneers reached the Salt Lake Valley, ore was discovered high above Parley’s Park in the Wasatch Mountains. For the next 125 years, mining was the principal activity of this little mountain burg. When the price of silver fell, skiing became the town’s most prominent economic engine and the old mine buildings were shuttered and left to mercy of our snowy winters. Some fell down. Some were bulldozed. Some of the shafts and mine workings caved, swallowing or destabilizing structures.
We now have a remarkable opportunity to save some of these structures and we need your help.
