Pat Pond and Robin Fillion are back by popular demand with their gourmet lunch (prepared from scratch) for the Thursday August 8th History Hike. The menu includes: grilled flank steak or portobella mushrooms, crusty rolls, delicious salads and sumptuous desserts.
We’ll begin by riding the Crescent Lift from Park City Mountain Resort base. Guest Guides Hope and Sanford Melville will lead us on the iconic Keystone Trail to the Crescent, Apex and California Mines, the California Comstock Mill and the D& M Mine. Our 5-star lunch will be served at the Thaynes Conveyor. There we’ll meet contractor Clark Martinez and learn about the on-going project to stabilize the long conveyor between the Thaynes shaft and the huge waste rock pile. Our return will be via the Crescent Lift.
The hike and lunch is an all-day event (9:30am to 3:00pm), with moderately strenuous hiking and elevation gain of 1,000 ft. Reservations are required.
All proceeds benefit the Thaynes Conveyor stabilization efforts, a partnership project of Park City Mountain Resort and Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History, a committee of the Park City Museum. Silver mines once dotted the mountains surrounding Park City and a labyrinth of mine tunnels extend more than 1,000 miles under Park City’s trails. The Park City Museum and Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History seek to stabilize and preserve the legacy of Park City’s historic mining structures for future residents and visitors alike.
