HIKE IS FULL. WAITLIST ONLY FOR THIS HIKE.
On Saturday June 28, 2025 The Park City Museum will host a “walking” lecture of an area known today as “Lower Deer Valley”. David Nicholas will be your tour guide. We will walk the Deer Valley loop. This is not a strenuous hike – we’ll be on sidewalks. However, please be mindful of sun protection, hydration and nourishment as you may need this on the 2.5 hour time trek.
We’ll explore the following topics: theories on how Deer Valley received its’ name; the mines associated with lower Deer Valley – the Queen Esther, the Park City Consolidated (Park Con), the Constellation, and the Judge Mine Smelter (and its’ relationship to the Snake Creek Drain Tunnel and landmark water rights legal battles); the history of recreation including the creation of “Snow Park” (1936), Deer Valley’s first ski resort, horse racing, motorcycle races, baseball and of course Deer Valley’s “second” ski resort; and the area’s railroad infrastructure.
