August 27 @ 9:45 am - 2:00 pm
Two Kings & a Queen hike with Heather Tourkin, Tuesday, August 27th, 9:45 am.
This hike will visit “The Two Kings Mines”: The Silver King Coalition Mine and Silver King Consolidated Mine. Once we ascend, we’ll view King Con Ore Bin, discuss the history of the Crescent and Bogan Mines, which were combined by Solon Spiro to form Silver King Consolidated, of King Con, as it was known.
We’ll then hike past the yurt and take a trail to the Silver Queen water towers where we’ll talk about the “famous” Susanna Bransford and how the water towers were stabilized. From there we continue the hike down to the Silver King Coalition Mine, which is located at the base of the Bonanza Chairlift. Here we’ll discuss: The Headframe and Steam Engine Buildings, the boarding house and other aspects of the mine complex.
At this point we’ll head down John’s trail through a gorgeous Aspen grove, then stop at different Silver King Aerial Tram towers, the counterweight, and a prospector’s hole as we make our way to the trailhead at the bottom of Treasure Mountain.
This hike will take approximately 4-4.5 hours and cover about 6 miles. Most of the hike is downhill on a single-track trail, although there are a couple small climbs.
